Outreach

At Bethel Church of the Nazarene, we believe that our faith cannot be separated from acts of compassion, service, and justice. Our community outreach and missions work is dedicated to making a positive impact both locally and globally, embracing justice and fostering inclusion.

Our Mission: We are committed to serving others with compassion and respect, recognizing the inherent dignity of every Image-Bearer. Our efforts aim to address the needs of our community and beyond, promoting justice, inclusion, and hope.

The Food Pantry

As part of our weekly tithes and offerings, we bring food and toiletry items that support the local food pantry at the Germantown Neighborhood Center.  Place your donations in the food pantry box located in front of the communion table. The location of the box is significant – we believe our support of the food pantry creates an extra leaf in God’s Table, extending the Eucharist into the world and inviting all who are hungry and thirsty to come to God.

Community Clothes Closet

The community clothing closet arose from the pastoral team’s shared and communal desire to support the tangible needs of our neighbors in Germantown. With wonderful painting from some of the pastors as well as from Teen Extreme, and additional pastoral work on the physical space, the Bethel community collects new and gently used clothing items, toys, school supplies, first-aid supplies, and toiletries, and distributes needful items throughout the Germantown community.

Fifth Sunday Stay and Serve

On the fifth Sunday of every month, we gather immediately after worship to work on a service project to benefit others. In the past, we have:

  • Picked up trash at Snug Harbor Elementary School
  • Assembled crisis care kits to be distributed by Nazarene Compassionate Ministries
  • Wrote letters to incarcerated persons in Massachusetts
  • Organized clothing donations for the Community Clothing Closet
  • Sent letters to persecuted Christians around the world

Youth Programs

Our youth programs focus on mentorship, education, and empowerment, helping young people from Germantown and beyond reach their full potential.

The Birch House

The Birch House is Bethel’s intentional community where several young adults exploring calls to ministry live together and orient themselves toward prayer and community action/involvement.  Meet the members of the Birch House here.

Activism

The Bethel community is committed, by God’s grace, to ending racism, ableism, transphobia, homophobia, sexism, and every other fearful, exclusionary practice. We join community demonstrations and other activities that challenge institutional and systemic injustice with the goal of sharing God’s compassion, healing, and redemption with our community and the world.

Get Involved

We invite everyone to join us in our community outreach efforts. Whether you have a few hours to volunteer or want to participate on a long-term basis, there are many ways to get involved and make a difference in our local community.

Why We Serve: Our commitment to outreach is rooted in our faith and the teachings of Jesus Christ. We believe in showing God’s love through action, and we strive to create a world where everyone is valued and included.
